I had s stroke also and my genius dr, put me on 2 benzos; Klonopin and xanax. I was vulnerable and so scared I didn’t even really question-just took them. Five years later it’s time to get off of them…I tapered as advised but am freaked out to find myself experiencing strange electrical jolts running down my trunk to my feet! Along with some twitches, no appetite and insomnia. My current dr. said to give it 3 weks. It has been 5 weeks. I’ve started to get a little used to it unbelievably and have begun doing some housework and exercise. I asked my husband to help make sure I eat and he’s been great about it. I too hate benzoa now and regard them with suspicion. I still have some pills in my purse but have no desire to take them! I hope my symptoms will get better but am seeing that it may take a year or more…

I have been taking Xanax for 16 years…i’ve tried everything to get off of it (per my doctor’s orders) to no avail…However i have been prescribed 2mg tablets, 3 to 4 times daily…i went from someone trapped in my parents home to a very successful businessman who enjoys life and enjoys my family…Xanax is not for everyone, but it is and always will be for me…I wish you all luck in getting of the drug if you hate it that bad…My life is great thanks to Xanax, i get to go to ball games and concerts and dont have to worry about my agoraphobia…

Hi, I’ve taken about 15-20 .5 xanax over a 30 day time period. I started feeling very depressed and crying alot, so I decided I need to stop, it’s only been two days and I a having horrible symptoms at night, cold and hot sweats, bad dreams, very restless sleep, shaking, headaches, are these withdrawal symptoms? I feel very bad, but don’t want to taper because it makes me feel so depressed. I had no idea it was such a powerful drug, I was just using it to relax and sleep better. How long could these symptoms last? Please help, thank you!

Hi All,
been on Alprazolam for about 12 years now. Was prescribed for sleep + anxiety after I had a stroke.
started on .5 mg , now up to 3mg (or more) a day. Ran out + within 48 hours woke up with uncontrollable arm/hand spasms – was taken to ER + suffered a grand-mal seizure (tg I was in hospital). I now need 3mg+ just to sleep, don’t want to take , but , can’t risk another seizure or worse.
The idea of being benzo free seem’s like an impossibility to Me…

DON’T START TAKING THIS DRUG …. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP !!!!!!!!!!

Do DRs have ANY responesbilty mine has been prescribing 0.5 mg gid for over 30 years I now need much MORE to live a some what normal life im 61 I dont take to get HIGH as I dont just so much tolerence to this god forskaken drug I accept that it was not shoved down my throat but omg ps she is just recently starting to not prescribe to new patients told me I have buildt up a tolerence dah?????? just staying alive to take care of my 86 y/o mom after that I really dont feel any purpose to go on

I was taking xanax’s for about 2 to 3 years just to get messed up. I was taking 12 to 14 mg a day. I don’t know how I am alive today and I thank god that I was able to kick the habbit. I did it without help except the support of friends and family. When I stopped taking the pills I have the craziest and scariest dreams. I was tired all the time and it was terrible. If you are or know somebody who is abusing any type of pills I strongly urgue you to get help for yourself or whoever because it is a big deal. Trust me when I say that.

Hi all, I’ve been prescribed Zanax for over 20 yrs. If I didn’t have it I am sure I wouldn’t be alive today. With an extreme anxiety disorder since childhood due to brutality by my mother. I couldn’t concentrate in school and barely graduated from high school. As an adult I knew something was very wrong with me but in the 70′s and 80′s you just didn’t talk about things like that. At about the age of 30 I finally got up the nerve to seek help from a psychiatrist. He prescribed zanax and imipramine (an antidepressant). I was so afraid to try drugs but a friend finally helped get my courage up. For people who wouldn’t be able to function normally, to now being able to be a productive member of society, it is a Godsend! I expect to be on it for the rest of my life and take it on a as needed basis only.

My mom has been on Xanaxs for 15 yrs.she. has bad anxiety attacks do to finding her husband deceased in the bed beside her.why is it that if she don’t have any just one day she vomits her stomach hurts am she has seizures why is it she goes thru all that if it’s just been one day if she don’t have anything for that day

I took one blue xanax on newyears day which was sunday an i have a drug test tomm which is wednesday do anyone kno if it would be out of my system do you think i’m going to pass the test HELP thanks!!
